Canon Powershot s90 Review
- by admin
The Canon PowerShot S90 is the youngest of the “S” series point and shoot cameras, Canon created in 1999 when they released the PowerShot S10. The S10 had more features, better construction and better picture quality than other small Canon digital cameras. The “S” series for several years continued to collect a good reputation for sophistication, the S80 in 2005. Canon then held to be released, and it seemed that the “S” series was over. But over the past year, there were rumors that Canon brought back the “S” with an innovative small camera for optimum performance in low light. The result was the PowerShot S90.
As it turns out, the S90 is well in low light for a non-DSLR camera, and packs in a lot of other interesting new features. It has the same 10 megapixel G11 1/1.7 inch sensor, such as the PowerShot, the DCR, the reviewer, Jim Keenan, the stated recently with the best image quality of all compact digital camera that he had checked ever produced. Hopefully this is an additional sign that camera manufacturers have decided that it affected the time to the megapixel race is over, at least as far as point-and-shoot cameras.

The PowerShot S90 is also a very fast f/2.0 lens fitted – fast as the f/2.8 maximum aperture of most high-quality point-and-shoot cameras, including the G11. Theoretically, this means the S90 is at lower ISOs in low light conditions to shoot. It has Canon’s DIGIC IV processor latest. It also has an interesting control ring around the 3.8x zoom lens, can shoot in RAW and has manual exposure controls including aperture and shutter priority automatic. While the S90 is pretty expensive for a point-and-shoot camera, it is less than the G11 price. Let’s take a closer look at these interesting, innovative small camera.
The Canon PowerShot S90 is a pretty small camera with a smooth surface that makes it easy to slide from the pocket or handbag. It is a combination metal plastic, feels like the road pretty solid. It measures 3.9×2.3×1.2 inches and weighs 6.17 ounces – not an ultra-compact but pleasant carry. The to bottom of the camera has a tripod mount, metal and plastic door to a sliding door to the memory card battery compartment. Separate compartments for the HDMI and A/V connections are on one side and are covered by a sturdy plastic latches. I have the impression of the S90 would survive a few drops (if you really do not want a fine, expensive camera drop like this now, right?). The camera is available in black.

The S90 is quite heavy for its size. During his 1.2 inch width and thumb rest on the back makes it possible to get a good grip, its surface is smooth, it is not a camera you want with a hand.At first glance, S90 would shoot very simple. Its front is smooth and orderly, with no visible lightning. A ring around the lens, users can assign the control is one of the many different host functions. In addition to the lens is the autofocus assist lamp and a pinhole for the microphone. The top of the camera includes a pop-up flash, which, when set to auto appear when the camera’s processor, it deems to be necessary. The flash can also always or always be on the set. The top also contains the ON/OFF button, the shutter button with zoom control all-round, a round dial and a button called “ring” function, which you can assign functions to control the lens ring.
The rear of the S90 is largely taken from its 3.0-inch LCD. On the right side of the screen is a four-way circular control panel, which has a control ring to him. Press accesses the Exposure Compensation write, delete the Flash right controls, setting the timer and (in photo) and left the camera’s macro mode. Function/Set button in the middle of the panel accepts menu selections and bring the function in the context menu. Around the panel there are buttons for the display of information on the LCD, which activate the menu, print images and share pictures and movies. The back of the camera also includes the speakers and thumb rest.

The S90 features a 3.0 inch high resolution (461,000 pixels), the five levels of brightness can be adjusted LCD. The display is bright, colorful, sharp and smooth. If you could not tell – I really enjoyed it to use. The S90 offers no viewfinder.
Canon offers a comprehensive 179 page manual. Although I do not mind looking at a user guide on the computer, it is reassuring to have a copy with you while you’re shooting, especially when you know just standing around your camera.
